INTRODUCTION

Frequently referred to as “The Red Planet”, the fourth planet from the Sun in the Solar System has always stirred the interest of thousands of people and has gained, over the time, an aura of mystery. One of the main societies that have focused on the study of this intriguing planet is the Mars Society Deutschland, whose goals include the popularization of information, pictures and chartsconcerning Mars, amongst students worldwide. Thus, when informed about the Mars Society’s aim, we, the students from the 11^thgrade at National College Iasi, have decided to launch an ample educational project, destined to enlarge students’ and young childrens' knowledge of the planet Mars.

First of all, we will focus on the promotion of the Mars Society Deutschland, by informing the general public about the goals of our society and the advantages of Mars exploration; afterwards, we will convey information on space, with an emphasis on Mars. With the help of the Mars Express Team we would like to raise awareness of the missions conducted by ESA amongst the younggeneration, represented by our colleagues and kindergarden children. In this respect, the unique opportunity of adopting a VMC observation would greatly improve the quality of our project, by providing us with “our own” set of images acquired by the VMC. Our approach is to organize a series of workshops, destined to children, in order to facilitate the understanding of planet Mars.
