OBJECTIVES
We, a number of young students interested in physics, geography and everything new, have decided to promote planet Mars, through Mars Society Deutschland, an organization dedicated to the exploration of Mars, with the help of the Mars Express flight control team. Promoting planet Mars is going to be done by raising awareness and interest in space and providing a set of activities for young children.
The present project aims at:
1. Promoting Mars Society Deutschland
Our goal is to promote the exploration of planet Mars by distributing a considerable number of flyers, containing information related to the benefits of Mars exploration, to create a network of the communities involved and to explore the possibilities of private Mars missions. We are also exposing our work using posters spread in schools, marking out the ideals of space exploration and the opportunities for exploring Mars. Furthermore, the basis of this project is formed by a website that has the purpose of revealing to a large public the interest of this society.
2. Raising awareness and interest in space, with a definite emphasis on the planet Mars
Bringing the science of planet Mars to the public also consists of raising awareness and interest in space by promoting the teaching of science, astronomy and spaceflight. The Mars Society Deutschland's goals aren't purely theoretical. Its aim is to show that Mars is an achievable goal, through a practical series of technical and other projects. Our aim as workshop members is to expand the target groups from scientists and engineers to the interested general public. Therefore with the help of geography and physics teachers we are establishing meetings with informative and educational topics.3. Providing a set of activities
Focusing the attention of our target group on our main subject, the planet Mars, we will also succeed in raising the interest of young children, eager for knowledge. In this manner we are proposing a set of activities and interactive workshops with the purpose of instigating their curiosity. They would be able to exercise and to test their knowledge related to space and the new pieces of information they will learn. Moreover, they could try to do some practical activities, for example, by creating some imitations, miniatures and using real Mars observations, using telescopes and spacecraft data.
